Fight excess weight for healthier life

Extra weight – the problem of the century. The assertion that «the good person must be a lot», has long lost its actuality – in the late XX century, the development of new diagnostic techniques revealed a direct correlation of obesity and the development of many serious diseases. Then, at the end of XX century, humanity is closer faced with a problem of increasing the number of people suffering from overweight and obesity.
Necessary to say that the terms «obesity» and «overweight» – are not synonymous, as many mistakenly believe. Obesity shows excess accumulation of fat in the body that are hazardous to health, while «overweight» means that a weight of a specific person exceeds the weight which is considered normal for their height.

According to the World Health Organization, in our time, obesity has become one of the most common chronic diseases – today, this pathology is indeed taking the scale of global epidemic, covering almost all countries. The sad record of «Century’s disease » United States demonstrates, where obesity has become a major national disaster. About two-thirds of adult population suffer today from obesity, almost 400 thousand Americans die annually from diseases caused by overweight. And these numbers are steadily increasing, despite the fact that most of the 28 thousand known diets were developed in U.S. At this time the battle with obesity on the list of tasks to ensure national security.

In Europe, the number of people suffering from the obesity is no less impressive – at least seven European countries now challenged «leadership» United States of America. This is the conclusion of experts from EU countries surveyed in detail. As it turned out, the frequency of disease in the adult European population ranges from 22 to 28 percent. Ironically, the problem is most prevalent in hot countries in the south of the continent – in Italy, Spain and Portugal, while in the north, in Scandinavia, the percentage a few below. In Cyprus, Malta, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Greece and Slovakia, about two-thirds of the male population are obese – is closer to the statistics of the United States
Most fatty in the UK, Hungary, Romania, Greece and Albania. For example, in the UK over the past 10 years, the number of people suffering from obesity has tripled, and as a result: British nation is “fattest” nation in Europe. In economic terms, this problem is costing them at 13 billion pounds sterling each year.

Taking in consideration the frightening statistics, the United European countries are planning to begin an ambitious program to improve the food and reduce the mass fraction of products high in calories.
However, European social programs, which are orientating people to a balanced diet and active lifestyle, did not bring the expected success. In Japan, representatives of the Society for the Study of Obesity said the problem was in the Land of the Rising Sun is also starting to become a “tsunami-sized”, threatening the health of the nation. The authors of the document draws attention to the fact that, despite the very widespread throughout the country, clinics and salons for those who wish to lose weight over the past three decades, the number of Japanese people with excess weight increased almost in four times and approaching to about 20%.

A striking proof, that obesity is indeed taking the magnitude of the disaster, is the fact that it is beginning to emerge as a serious problem even in developing countries – those, which traditionally suffered from the lack of the food. Each year an increasing number of States, which recently struggled with hunger, is now struggling with the problem of excess weight.
While Asia is still lagging behind the United States and Europe on obesity, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines are have a very disturbing statistics. In China, where policy is «one family – one child» sparked a phenomenon known as «little emperor syndrome» and created millions of spoiled and “overfed” children, the growth of children’s obesity is a medical particularly great concern. Up to 10% of the 290 million children in China are overweight or obese, and, according to projections, this figure will double in 10 years. And a bit more statistics: in Brazil over the past 15 years the prevalence of obesity almost doubled, both men and women. In Egypt, Chile, Peru and Mexico are suffering from obesity for more than 25% of children. In Zambia and Morocco, these figures range from 15 Up to 20%. In Russia overweight has a 25-30%, and obesity – 20% of the population. However, in some age «risk», these figures significantly higher. For example, among women aged 35-55 years, excess weight is recorded at 75% and the obesity rate approaching 50%.

children's health websites
Should religion be part of a plan of treatment in a psychiatric hospital?

I work in a psychiatric hospital for children of a unit. Recently, an officer asked patients to write in his diary about what you write if you could write a letter to God. I personally thought this was incorrect, since it involves these children with fragile minds, as it is necessary to believe in God to have a normal mental health. But I'm having a hard time find legal websites and discuss this. Religion must be separated from direct contact. If anyone can help me find anything on an official website of the APA or something legal, I appreciate it. I bring this to my manager.

If it is a private hospital in psychology, I'm pretty sure it is allowed to do almost anything you want in terms of religion. However, if you receive any state funds (granted you live in the U.S.), becomes a kind of gray area. If the official made mandatory exercise, the child must write a letter to the Christian God, rather than a god of their choice, or someone else entirely, then I would say that some limits have been cross. And the person who said that America was founded on Christianity, which are obviously retarded.
